About LICEF Burma Campus

LICEF PRIMARY SCHOOL is a multi-cultural Islamic school which has embraced every person regardless of their religious affiliations. As this kind of education is provided Islamic ethos, are taken into consideration. LICEF follows the 2013 Zambia Education Curriculum Framework (2013 ZECF) incorporating components of the Cambridge syllabus. At the end of Grade7 pupils sit for their end of primary course leaving examination with the Examinations Council of Zambia as well as the LICEF Primary School own grown Checkpoint Grade7 Examination. The primary section comprises of Grades 1 to 7. Grades 1 and 2 are located at Malata Campus and classes are of a mixed gender. From Grade 3 upwards, the genders are strictly separated and housed in different sections of the school premises with each gender having its own facility in most of the disciplines. Classes are of a mixed ability with an average enrolment of 25-30 pupils in a class which are handled by one class teacher and a teacher aide for Grades 1 and 2 only. Grades 3 to 7 have specialised teachers handling Physical Education (PE), Expressive Arts, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Cinyanja and Arabic.
The teaching of Literacy and the English language is backed by a very rich and well stocked reading programme sitting in a special Reading Extension Department. This programme provides quality and extensive reading lessons in order to develop good academic and independent reading skills in pupils. Furthermore, the department also offers library services to Grades 1 to 4. The Arabic Language is taught alongside the Cinyanja Language (which is one of the seven official languages being taught in schools which follow the 2013 ZECF) as an optional subject. Arabic is mandatory for Muslim pupils, nevertheless, pupils who wish to study it are allowed to take it.

In line with the Curriculum, LICEF Primary offers the pupils an opportunity to discover their abilities, interests and talents by exposing them to two Career Pathways: academic and technical. The school thus offers Creative and Technology Studies (CTS). This subject is comprised of Expressive Arts, ICT and PE.

In addition, every year LICEF school which is affiliated to Independent Schools Association of Zambia (ISAZ) organises internal science fairs. These create a great flow in learning and creativity. This is one technique that is used by our qualified staff to teach and develop pupils’ interest in science. The school also offers various co-curricular activities.
